A minor girl, declared missing, was mistakenly cremated by her family, believing her to be dead. Just days afterward, she was found alive, which led to the burning question: whose body was initially discovered and burned in the forest?
This incident ties back to the Gotegaon police station area of Narsinghpur district. The family had reported the minor girl's disappearance days before. In response, the police launched an investigation into her whereabouts.
On May 9, an unidentified young woman's body surfaced in the jungles of the Themi police precinct. Although the body was severely decomposed, the family identified it as their missing daughter based on clothing and other cues. The police conducted a post-mortem and handed the body over to the family, who hastily proceeded with the cremation without any DNA verification or comprehensive confirmation.
The police broadened their investigation and honed in on a young man last seen with the missing girl. To their astoundment, when they located him, they found the girl alive, who was thought to have been cremated.
