Minister Firhad Hakim from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's government has spoken about the recent violence in Murshidabad, West Bengal, deeming the internal migration as usual. The minister reassures that the situation is under control. People are moving within Bengal due to its safety, and the DGP had a press briefing as well.
An incident occurred, but it shouldn't lead to chaos. Even bigger incidents have occurred in other states, and people remained silent. The recent incident, albeit unfortunate, will be investigated, as Bengal's land is sacred. Initial violence broke out in Suti, Murshidabad, followed by reports from Shamsherganj about 10 km away. Police were occupied with clearing the highway blockade in Suti and couldn't reach Shamsherganj, prompting the involvement of Central Forces like the BSF.
The violence continued until reinforcements from Malda and Behrampur arrived to take control. The unrest began when a group blocked National Highway 34. When police intervened, tensions escalated quickly with stone pelting and tear gas. Previous attacks on police had occurred during NRC movements here, escalating concerns.
After Friday prayers, thousands protested the Waqf Bill and blocked NH-34. Police efforts to remove the blockade led to confrontations, with similar numbers gathering in Shamsher Ganj, a few kilometers away.
