In a significant crackdown on cybercrime, Mumbai Police has blocked over 11,000 mobile numbers in the last 19 months, which fraudsters used to deceive the city's residents. Officials state that this crucial action is aimed at curbing cyber fraud and protecting the hard-earned money of the public.

More than Rs 300 Crores Saved

According to Mumbai Police's cyber wing, since the launch of the '1930' helpline in May 2022, over Rs 300 crores have been safeguarded for victims of cybercrime. This helpline has proven to be extremely helpful for those targeted by fraud.

Received Over 1.3 Million Calls

From May 2022 till now, the cyber wing has received more than 1.31 million calls. Complaints were filed in over 131,000 cases, including share trading-investment frauds, digital arrests, online task fraud, online shopping scams, loan fraud, and job fraud.

SIM Cards Obtained Using Fake Documents

In most cases, criminals obtained SIM cards using fake documents or purchased them from real users to misuse them. Following an investigation, the police have blocked 11,063 such mobile numbers to dismantle criminal networks, preventing further deception.

Police officials express concern over cybercriminals' new tactics easily ensnaring people. Fraudsters attract individuals via social media, online shopping platforms, and fake apps, subsequently stealing their personal information and money.

Mumbai Police urges citizens not to click on unknown links, take suspicious calls or messages seriously, and immediately report them to the '1930' helpline. Additionally, if any financial transaction seems dubious, notify the bank and police right away.

Police claim that the ongoing actions have significantly curbed cybercrime. However, unless individuals remain vigilant, fraudsters will continually devise new ways to target them.
