Mumbai Kurla Bus Accident:
On Monday night in Mumbai's Kurla area, a tragic bus accident claimed 7 lives and left 42 people injured. The RTO department has now submitted the preliminary investigation report to the government, which states that no issues were found with the ill-fated bus. However, the final report is still awaited.
According to RTO's Joint Commissioner Ravi Gaikwad, RTO officials are taking their time to submit the final investigation report. The bus showed no signs of malfunction. This report has been compiled by the RTO and presented to the BEST administration.
Interestingly, on Tuesday, the police informed the court that it's possible the driver may have used the bus as a weapon in this incident. This angle requires investigation. PTI reports that the police suspect the bus driver, Sanjay More, may have deliberately used the vehicle as a weapon.
To facilitate the investigation, the court has remanded the 54-year-old bus driver, Sanjay More, into police custody until December 21. This incident occurred around 9:30 PM on Monday in Kurla, Mumbai. The bus operated by the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) crashed into several vehicles and pedestrians in a densely populated area.
Immediately following the incident, bus driver Sanjay More was detained at the spot and later arrested. He faces charges under sections 105 (non-intentional killing) and 110 (attempt to commit non-intentional killing) of the Indian Penal Code, alongside relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act.
During the court hearing, the police argued that the alleged crime was of a serious nature, necessitating a thorough investigation of Sanjay More's intentions. The police emphasized the need to determine whether the bus was recklessly driven, intentionally jeopardizing lives.
The police also stated they would investigate if More had received proper training, whether he was under the influence of substances at the time, and if there was any conspiracy behind the incident. The police noted that the transport department has yet to conduct a technical inspection of the bus involved in the accident. They stressed the need to prove whether Sanjay More possessed the bus as a weapon in the congested urban area.
However, Sanjay More's defense attorney, Samadhan Sulen, opposed the police's argument, proposing the accident could be due to technical failures, such as mechanical failure or a short circuit. He argued it was the administration's duty to ensure that the vehicle was roadworthy before handing it over to drivers.
The accused bus driver's lawyer, Sulen, also told the court that Sanjay More was well-trained and had a clean record, regularly driving the bus without prior accidents.
