The torrential downpour in the capital city of Delhi and the surrounding area on Thursday resulted in widespread disruption. The meteorological department has issued a red alert for Delhi. Ahead of the Independence Day celebrations, several parts of Delhi experienced heavy waterlogging, submerging many underpasses.
The persistent rain since morning in Delhi-NCR provided much-needed respite from the scorching heat but also resulted in heavy waterlogging in certain areas of the capital.
Major roadways were choked with traffic jams, posing significant challenges for commuters heading to work and school.

Saurabh Bharadwaj, a senior leader of the Aam Aadmi Party and former minister of the Delhi government, shared a video on social media taking a jab at the Rekha Gupta government. He posted a clip from the Greater Kailash region, where streets were inundated, captioned, "Now even boats are sailing in Greater Kailash GK, all thanks to the four-engine government."
Atishi Writes to the Chief Minister
Former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi shared pictures of waterlogging on social media and penned a letter to CM Rekha Gupta. She wrote, "The mismanagement by the four-engine BJP government has not only submerged Delhi's streets but has also created a water crisis in Kalkaji."
Furthermore, she stated that the Giri Nagar pumping station is entirely submerged. Residents of Giri Nagar, Kalkaji, Govindpuri, and Govindpuri Extension are facing a severe water shortage for several days.
The rain in Delhi started early in the morning. Fortunately, there were no major disruptions reported in flight operations. The Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport stated in an update that flight operations remained normal. However, an advisory was issued, cautioning about the adverse weather conditions in Delhi but assuring normalcy regarding flight operations.
