With the onset of the monsoon in Kerala, it's set to reach other states soon. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there's a likelihood of the Southwest Monsoon arriving early in Madhya Pradesh, around June 15. The monsoon had made its first appearance in Kerala and the Northeastern regions on May 29.

Simultaneous onset of the monsoon in Kerala and the Northeast is a noteworthy event. This synchronicity has occurred four times in the past—in the years 2017, 1997, 1995, and 1991.

Expect Madhya Pradesh Monsoon Entry on June 15

An IMD meteorologist from Bhopal, Premendra Kumar, mentioned that there is a possibility of the monsoon arriving around June 15 in Madhya Pradesh, potentially a day or two before the usual time. He anticipates above-average rainfall this season, while the state's average rainfall stands at 949 mm. Last year, the monsoon reached Madhya Pradesh on June 25 and swiftly covered the entire state.

Another IMD Bhopal meteorologist, Prakash Dhawale, explained that the Southwest Monsoon had made an early entry in Kerala. If the monsoon progresses normally, it could reach South Central Madhya Pradesh a couple of days earlier than the expected June 17 date. In 2022, the monsoon arrived one day earlier than usual on June 16 and had covered 80% of the state by June 21.

When will the Monsoon Knock on the Doors of Different States?

Following its arrival in Kerala, the monsoon usually envelops the whole country by July 15. Let's look at the weather department's predictions for the monsoon arrival across the states.

The IMD suggests that the weakening of the El Niño system and activation of La Niña conditions bode well for this year's monsoon season in India, and these conditions facilitated the early knock of the monsoon. Additionally, the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) conditions are also turning favorable this year, contributing to positive signs for the monsoon.
