In a shocking incident during a kabaddi tournament in Sohana village, Mohali, a tragedy unfolded as police apprehended the main handler through an encounter. The 30-year-old kabaddi player and promoter, Kanwar Digvijay alias Rana Balachauria, was shot dead during a tournament organized by the Gurudwara Management Committee and Vaidwan Sports Club.
Following this heartbreaking assassination, Mohali Police and the Anti-Gangster Task Force intensified their search for the culprits. An encounter ensued near the Laldu Highway ruins. During this firefight, Harjinder alias Middu, a resident of Naushera Pannuan in Tarn Taran district, was killed. Two officers were injured in the shootout.
SSP Mohali, Harmandeep Singh Hans, stated that the injured officers were hospitalized for treatment. He elaborated on the operation, explaining how the suspect opened fire with a Zigana pistol before police fired back, eventually leading to his death in a hospital.

According to police, Harjinder was the mastermind and handler on the ground level, present during the act. Investigations revealed that after the murder, the perpetrators fled on bikes before abandoning them for a car. The investigation led to the arrest of the case's mastermind in Delhi.
Police arrested accused Aashdeep Singh at Delhi Airport. Reports suggest Aashdeep had come from Moscow to orchestrate this conspiracy and was attempting to return to Muscat at the time of arrest. Aashdeep's revelations helped police trace back to Harjinder. He was reportedly in touch with gangster Donnie Bal from abroad.
Details suggest the murder was orchestrated by the Donnie Bal and Lucky Patial gangs aiming to dominate kabaddi tournaments. Suspicions arose that Rana Balachauria was close to incarcerated gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, making him a target.

Police identified shooters as Aditya Kapoor alias Makhan and Karan Pathak alias Defaulter Karan, both Amritsar residents and linked to the Donnie Bal gang. Aditya Kapoor has 13 criminal cases, while Karan Pathak has two.
The attack was pinpointed solely at Rana Balachauria. Investigators denied any connection to singer Sidhu Moosewala’s murder. Police affirmed Rana Balachauria was not a criminal; he had no role in Moosewala’s murder.
The Rana Balachauria murder case rekindled memories of attacks on Punjab kabaddi players. Previously, in Mallian Kalan village, Jalandhar, kabaddi player Sandeep Nangla was killed during a tournament. Later this year, in Jagraon, 25-year-old player Teja Singh was also murdered. Political circles are abuzz with the latest Mohali incident.
