Dr. Manmohan Singh, renowned for leading economic reforms as the head of the Congress-led UPA government, passed away at the age of 92 on Thursday. He admirably led India as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014 for a decade.

Congress’ Allegations

On Friday, Congress alleged that not designating a site for Singh's last rites and memorial dishonors the first Sikh Prime Minister. The party raised this issue when the Ministry of Home Affairs announced that Singh's funeral would be held at Nigambodh Ghat in Delhi with full state honors at 11:45 AM on Saturday.

Jairam Ramesh's X Post

Notably, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh tweeted on Friday, accusing the central government of disrespecting former PM Dr. Manmohan Singh. He stated, "This morning, the Congress President wrote to the Prime Minister proposing a site for Singh's funeral and memorial to honor his legacy." Ramesh questioned, "Our nation's people fail to understand why the Government of India has not designated a site for Dr. Singh's funeral and memorial, fitting for his global stature, remarkable achievements, and decades of national service."

He labeled it a deliberate insult to Dr. Manmohan Singh, India's first Sikh Prime Minister. Dr. Singh, who served as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, passed away at 92 on Thursday, with his funeral scheduled for 11:45 AM on Saturday, with full state honors at Delhi's Nigambodh Ghat.
