Exciting developments arise as Jharkhand approaches assembly elections. In a surprising twist, Mandal Murmu, who proposed Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren in Sahibganj Barhet, officially joined BJP on Sunday at Godda MP Nishikant Dubey's residence.
Mandal Murmu Joins BJP
On Sunday, Mandal Murmu, descendant of Sidho-Kanhu, became a part of BJP at Godda MP Nishikant Dubey’s Devghar residence, with BJP’s state election coordinator Shivraj Singh Chauhan and Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma witnessing the event.
Just days earlier, Murmu was on his way to Ranchi to join BJP but was temporarily detained by the Dumri police. He was released after a brief search, a move that sparked protest from JMM at the time. Despite previous setbacks, BJP has now successfully inducted Murmu.
Who is Mandal Murmu?
Mandal Murmu is a descendant of Sidho-Kanhu, leaders of the 1855 Santhal Hul rebellion, revered for their resistance against British colonial forces to protect land and resources.
BJP aims to send a message by welcoming this descendant, highlighting the move as Murmu shifting allegiance to support BJP’s policies. This contrasts with CM Hemant Soren’s emphasis on guarding land and resources, suggesting a shift in trust among tribal descendants.
As for the Jharkhand assembly elections, voting is pegged for November 13 and November 20, 2024, with results slated for November 23.
