With the start of February, the nation anticipates not only the national budget but also several major changes that come into effect today, February 1. These shifts, ranging from new LPG pricing to updated FASTag rules, will touch every household and pocket. Oil marketing companies have announced new LPG cylinder prices, which have seen an increase today. Additionally, travelers on the highway will experience changes in the toll tax FASTag regulations. Moreover, enthusiasts of pan masala and cigarettes may face a shock due to tax adjustments.

First Change: LPG Cylinder Price Hike

On the first day of each month, oil marketing companies adjust LPG cylinder prices. On February 1, 2026, they announced another increase for the second consecutive month of approximately 50 rupees for the 19 kg LPG cylinders. The new rates reflect a change from 1691.50 to 1740.50 rupees in Delhi, from 1795 to 1844.50 rupees in Kolkata, from 1642.50 to 1692 rupees in Mumbai, and from 1849.50 to 1899.50 rupees in Chennai. The prices of 14 kg domestic gas cylinders remain unchanged.

Second Change: Air Travel to Become Cheaper

Alongside the change in LPG prices, there is a reduction in Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices starting February 1. Changes in ATF prices directly impact air travelers' expenses. At the start of January, ATF prices were already reduced by around 7% in Delhi. February begins with further reductions—it's now decreased from 92,323.02 to 91,393.39 rupees per kiloliter in Delhi, from 95,378.02 to 94,445.62 in Kolkata, from 86,352.19 to 85,474.63 in Mumbai, and from 95,770 to 94,781.99 in Chennai.

Third Change: Extra Taxes on Pan Masala and Cigarettes

The third significant update affects consumers of pan masala and cigarettes, as taxes on tobacco products are being increased starting February 1, 2026. According to a PTI report, new taxes and duties implemented alongside GST on tobacco products will lead to price hikes in an effort to promote health and national security.

Fourth Change: Updates for FASTag Users

The fourth change, effective February 1, 2026, concerns FASTag regulations. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is streamlining the process by eliminating the KYC verification requirement for issuing FASTags for cars, jeeps, and vans, simplifying the system and providing relief for users.

Fifth Change: Bank Holidays
