In the limelight of social and mainstream media are two standout female officers from Madhya Pradesh Police, CSP Pooja Pandey of Seoni and CSP Heena Khan of Gwalior. Their stories have caught attention for very different reasons; while one is embroiled in controversy over millions, the other has garnered praise for her tact amidst communal tensions.
Seoni's CSP Pooja Pandey:
CSP Pooja Pandey, posted in Seoni district, stands accused of misappropriating hawala operators' ₹29.6 million. On the night of October 8-9, during a check in the woods of Siladehi, money intended for travel from Katni to Jalna was intercepted and allegedly seized by Pandey and her team.
Following the revelation, under the orders of DGP Kailash Makwana, Pooja Pandey was suspended. A case has been registered against her and along with TI Arpit Bhairam and 11 other officers, under grave charges like robbery and kidnapping, resulting in their arrest and subsequent detention. The police are accused of assaulting the driver and failing to notify their superiors instead of seizing the cash.
CSP Heena Khan's 'Jai Shri Ram' Declaration in Gwalior:
Meanwhile, CSP Heena Khan from Gwalior demonstrated her savvy by diffusing the tension surrounding a Dalit versus Savarna protest. The entire episode began with a controversial remark about Dr. B.R. Ambedkar by Advocate Anil Mishra, prompting Dalit groups to announce a major protest for October 15, leading to rising communal tensions in the city.
Amidst the unrest, Advocate Anil Mishra attempted to organize a Ramayana recital outside his home, which was prevented by the police. When accused by Mishra of being 'anti-Sanatan,' Heena Khan wisely invoked the mantra 'Jai Jai Shri Ram,' emphasizing her neutrality towards any religion.
The video of the female officer went viral, with social media users showering her with praise. The administration has deployed 4000 police personnel in the district, and the protest set for today, October 15, has been effectively curtailed.
