A minister from Madagascar has demonstrated remarkable courage. 57-year-old Serge Gel defied his age by swimming for 12 hours in frigid waters to save his own life. Authorities reported that the helicopter crashed off the northeastern coast of Madagascar. After swimming for nearly 12 hours, Serge Gel reached the shore. While two people survived this crash, 39 lives were confirmed lost.

Police and port officials stated that the search for two other passengers continued following Monday's accident. The cause of the accident is not immediately known. The head of the port authority, Jean-Edmond Randrianantenaina, mentioned that Serge Gel and a fellow police officer swam to different locations in the coastal city of Mahambo on Tuesday morning.

In a video shared on social media, Gel is seen lying down, declaring, 'It's not my time to die yet. I'm feeling cold, but I'm not injured.'

Tragically, 39 people perished in this crash. Police Chief Jafisambatra Ravoavy informed on Tuesday that the death toll increased after rescuers recovered 18 more bodies.

Ravoavy told AFP that Gel used a seat from the helicopter to float. He said, 'He's always been resilient in sports and has maintained his fitness as a minister, just like a 30-year-old man. His nerves are as strong as steel.' After serving in the police for three decades, Gel was appointed as a minister during a cabinet reshuffle in August.
