BJP's series of victories in Meerut commenced in 2009, when Rajendra Agarwal defeated BSP's candidate Malook Nagar by nearly 35,000 votes. The Modi wave in 2014 solidified Rajendra Agarwal's position, winning over BSP's Mohammed Akhlaq by a landslide margin. However, the 2019 elections saw Agarwal's victory margin shrink significantly.
