In Kolkata, junior doctors staged a massive protest at RG Kar Medical College following the horrific rape and murder of a lady doctor. The protesters broke through barricades and stormed the hospital, alleging that attempts were made to tamper with the evidence at the scene. Among the demonstrators were resident doctors and medical students. The Federation of Resident Doctors Association stated that the strike would not end until a solid assurance was given regarding the Central Healthcare Protection Act.
Earlier, the Kolkata High Court heard the case and handed over the investigation to the CBI. The CBI will take over from the Kolkata police to investigate the matter. The court has ordered that all CCTV footage and documents related to the case be handed over to the CBI by 10 AM on Wednesday. The court also stated that the investigation would be supervised under its watch.
Chief Justice T.S. Sivagnanam, heading the bench, urged the protesting doctors to resume work, emphasizing that it was their duty to treat patients in government hospitals. The bench appreciated the sentiment expressed by the doctors and interns but noted that there had been no significant progress in the investigation after five days.
The state's lawyer defended the investigation, stating that one person had been arrested and over 25 statements had been recorded. They claimed the investigation was being conducted properly. The bench expressed disappointment with RG Kar Medical College's then-principal, Sandeep Ghosh, who was subsequently asked to go on extended leave for not fulfilling his responsibilities.
On Monday, the police handed over the post-mortem report to the family of the lady doctor who was the victim of rape and murder. The report mentioned strangulation, signs of sexual penetration, and the violent nature of the attack before her death. It stated that the victim was strangled twice and that her death occurred between 3 to 5 AM.
The autopsy report also ruled out suicide, confirming that the victim was murdered after being raped. According to the report, the trainee doctor's private parts, eyes, and mouth were bleeding, and she had injuries on her face, nails, stomach, left leg, neck, right hand, and lips. Additionally, a bone in her neck was found broken in two parts.

This horrifying incident occurred on the night of August 8-9, when the body of the trainee doctor was found at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata. The 31-year-old doctor was on night duty with three other doctors that night. They had all shared a meal together before retiring for the night.
Afterward, the female doctor went to sleep in the seminar hall around 2 AM. Sanjay Roy, an individual not affiliated with the hospital or any patient's relatives, entered the seminar hall through the back route and brutally murdered and raped her. It’s significant to note that he worked as a civic volunteer for the Kolkata police.

When a police officer was admitted to this medical college, Roy was always there to bring medications and provide other assistance. However, on the day of the incident, he was not present for any particular work. He had come to the back part of the hospital to drink alcohol and watch obscene videos on his mobile phone before committing the heinous act.
Around 4.45 AM, he was seen leaving the seminar hall. After committing the crime, Roy attempted to tamper with the evidence. Police found indications that he had tried to wash away bloodstains at the scene and had cleaned his clothes after returning home. He has been charged under sections 64 (rape) and 103 (murder) of the BNS.
