The RG Kar Medical College rape-murder case in Kolkata that shocked the nation is now causing further distress to the victim's family as they struggle to obtain their daughter's death certificate.
The grieving father alleges that they're entangled in a bureaucratic runaround, attempting to secure the certificate from either the hospital or the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), with each institution blaming the other.
Awaiting the Death Certificate
Despite the Panihati Municipal Corporation having issued a cremation certificate, the parents are still anxiously waiting for KMC to issue the official death certificate.
Authorities Passing the Buck
The trainee doctor's parents narrated their ordeal of being sent back and forth; KMC claims the certificate must come from RG Kar, while hospital officials have directed them back to KMC.
Accused Attacked the Doctor
On August 9th, 2024, the trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital was tragically raped and murdered. Police reports indicate that the assailant entered the chest medicine seminar room at around 4 a.m., where the junior doctor was asleep under a blanket. Taking advantage of her vulnerability, the attacker assaulted her multiple times before uncovering her.
Rape Followed by Murder
When the trainee doctor resisted, the attacker became more violent, strangling her and delivering multiple blows to her face, abdomen, and chest. Unconscious and defenseless, she was subjected to rape and subsequently killed by the perpetrator.
This horrifying incident not only highlights the grim realities facing women in metropolitan areas but also the inefficacies in bureaucratic processes that add to the trauma of grieving families.
