The case of the rape-murder of a resident doctor from Kolkata has become a hot topic nationwide. The investigation is in the hands of the CBI, and the agency is meticulously piecing together the case. Meanwhile, India Today conducted an exclusive interview with the accused Sanjay Roy's mother to find out her current feelings.
In her interview with India Today Bangla, the accused Sanjay's mother said, 'I am trying to cope with the situation. Sanjay lived in this very house. On that night (August 8), he didn't eat dinner, only saying he was going to the hospital. No matter what, he always came back at night.'
Happiness Didn't Last Long
She continued, 'Sanjay was into boxing. His father was very strict. Maybe if I were as strict, this wouldn't have happened. He took care of me, even cooked for me.' Speaking about Sanjay's first marriage, his mother said his first wife was a good girl, and they were happy. Suddenly, she was diagnosed with cancer, and their happiness didn't last long.
'I Was Shocked to Hear About the Incident'
Talking about Sanjay, his mother shared, 'He lived in this house. He never did anything unusual, so I was not alert. I didn't know he went to RG Kar Hospital. When I heard about the incident, I was shocked. My son isn't like that. One day he came home drunk, perhaps upset over his wife's death. I told him not to worry, we would find someone else. It was natural for him to be sad. Maybe that's why he drank. I advised him to have tea instead of alcohol.'

'Everything Fell Apart After My Husband's Death'
She further added, 'During this tough time, none of my daughters are visiting. All four have abandoned me. My son-in-laws also aren't coming. Occasionally, the police visit, but I don't know who all are coming. After my husband's death, everything fell apart. My beautiful family is now just a memory. I never heard before that Sanjay visited prostitutes.'
'Don't Know Who Influenced Him'
Sanjay's mother revealed, 'I don't know how to appeal in court. I am alone. If I meet him (Sanjay), I will ask him why he did this. I don't know who influenced him to do so. My son was never like this. If someone framed him, they will be punished. If he did this, God will punish him.'
Passionate About Football and Boxing
Recollecting Sanjay's birth, his mother said, 'He was born on Rakhi Purnima in 1989. I felt his birth was a rebirth of Lord Vishnu for us, so I named him Sanjay. He used to play football, and he loved boxing. He was a 'topper' in his childhood. He graduated from college and was also a part of the NCC.'
