The alleged gang rape incident within a law college campus in South Kolkata's Kasba area has sent shockwaves throughout the city. Such disturbing events once again bring the safety of students in educational institutions into question. In connection to this horrifying incident, three accused have been arrested, including two current students and a former student of the college.

The incident has sparked political debate in the state. While BJP has questioned the TMC, a statement also came from a TMC leader. TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee commented, 'It is not feasible to deploy police within colleges or educational institutions. Male colleagues have a duty to ensure the safety of their female counterparts. Those who roam outside should also consider whom they accompany. Crimes like these are perpetrated by individuals with distorted minds. Strict actions should be taken against such people. Women must stand up against such individuals, even if it concerns a government college. Action should be taken against the college administration.'

'We Will Raise This Issue...'

BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari stated that the police are fully responsible for this. What is the Kolkata police doing there? The Chief Minister has no right to remain in office. We will bring up this issue.

Amit Malviya, head of BJP's IT cell, stated on social media, 'The crime was committed by a former student and two from the college, and alleged involvement of a TMC member.'

Referring to the RG Kar Hospital incident, Malviya stated that crimes against women in West Bengal continue unabated and accused Mamata Banerjee’s government of turning the state into a 'nightmare for women.' He declared that BJP stands with the victim's family and is determined to ensure justice for all accused.

Kolkata's Mayor Firhad Hakim commented, 'This is an extremely serious matter. I'm unaware at the moment, so let me get an update from the police, and I will comment later.'
