Nationwide protests continue in the wake of the rape and murder of a trainee female doctor at a government hospital in Kolkata. Amidst these protests, the CBI's investigation is also ongoing. Sources from the Central Investigative Agency stated that so far, they have questioned three fellow doctors of the victim.
The interrogation of these doctors was based on what they knew about the night of the crime. Furthermore, the fellow doctors were asked about the events during the dinner they had with the victim on that night. The CBI recorded all their statements. They also inquired who last saw the victim that night.
CBI Summons 10 Individuals
The CBI has summoned 10 individuals, including the security supervisor of RG Kar Hospital, who were on duty on the day of the crime. Additionally, several guards present on the night of the incident have also been summoned. The CBI requested the duty roster from the supervisor to ascertain who was on duty on each floor.
Questioning of Sandeep Ghosh
Two temporary security guards, previously suspended by the hospital, have also been called for questioning. Moreover, former principal Sandeep Ghosh was questioned extensively by the CBI on Friday afternoon. Dr. Ghosh arrived at the CBI office at 3 PM on Friday and left early today at around 3 AM, spending nearly 24 hours there.
Dr. Sandeep Ghosh has once again been summoned by the CBI today. The investigative agency aims to determine where Sandeep Ghosh was on the night of the crime and whether his statement matches with others.
Body Found in The Seminar Hall
On the night of August 8-9, a gruesome crime took place at the seminar hall of RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata. A 31-year-old post-graduate resident doctor was allegedly sexually assaulted while on duty at the government-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. She was found unconscious in the seminar hall and was rushed to the doctor but succumbed to her injuries during treatment. Her body bore multiple signs of injury.
The post-mortem report, handed over to the victim's family, has revealed the nature of the assault and sexual penetration before her murder. The report indicated that she was strangled twice before her death, which occurred between 3 to 5 AM.
IMA Strike
The rape and murder of the trainee doctor in Kolkata has sparked outrage across the nation. Resident doctors are continuously protesting. In response to the incident and the subsequent vandalism, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has announced a 24-hour shutdown of non-emergency services from 6 AM today. Out-patient departments (OPDs) and elective surgeries will not operate. The IMA has declared that these services will be shut in all areas where modern medical doctors provide their services.
The statement read, “Following the heinous crime at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata and the vandalism against protesting students on the eve of Independence Day, the Indian Medical Association has declared a nationwide shut down of modern medical doctors’ services from 6 AM on Saturday 17.08.2024 to 6 AM on Sunday 18.08.2024.”
