In a major upset ahead of the legislative elections in Haryana this October, senior Congress leader Kiran Chaudhary and her daughter Shruti Chaudhary have resigned from the Congress party. They will be joining the ruling BJP this Wednesday. Kiran Chaudhary currently serves as a legislator for Congress, and her daughter Shruti, a former MP, holds the position of working president of the Haryana Congress.
Submitting their resignation to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Kiran Chaudhary stated that the Congress party in Haryana has become a personal domain, leaving no space for genuine, honest voices like hers. She expressed that she has been systematically suppressed, insulted, and plotted against, greatly hindering her tireless efforts to represent her people and uphold the values she has always stood for.

Seen as a staunch opponent of senior Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Kiran Chaudhary, who is also the daughter-in-law of former Haryana Chief Minister Bansi Lal, was reportedly displeased after her daughter Shruti was not given a ticket to contest from the Bhiwani-Mahendragarh constituency in the recent Lok Sabha elections. Congress fielded Rao Dan Singh, a loyalist of Hooda from this seat, who ultimately lost to Dharambir Singh of the BJP.
As per PTI, Kiran Chaudhary announced, "Shruti and I will join the BJP this Wednesday in Delhi." Taking a jibe at Hooda, she added, "He has pushed me to a corner. There's a limit to humiliation. Shruti and I will both resign from our primary memberships of Congress and join BJP, where Shruti will also resign from her post as the working president of the Haryana Congress."
