The counting of votes for the local body elections in Kerala is in progress. Elections were held in two phases on December 9 and 11 for 1199 of the total 1200 local bodies in Kerala. No elections were held this time in Mattanur Municipality of Kannur district, as polls are scheduled to be held there in September 2027. In the local body elections held in seven districts of Kerala, 70.91 percent voter turnout was recorded in the first phase and 76.08 percent in the second phase. This election was for the representatives of municipal corporations, municipalities, gram panchayats, block panchayats, and district panchayats.
On December 9, elections were held in the first phase for over 11,000 wards of panchayats, municipalities, and three corporations in seven districts including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, and Ernakulam. The second phase of polling for local body elections took place in 595 local bodies in seven districts, two days after the first phase on December 11. The results of the Kerala local body elections will set the political scene before the 2026 assembly elections. The results of local body elections often indicate the mood of voters; the results in the 2010 and 2015 local elections were against the ruling coalition, with the opposition winning the 2011 and 2016 assembly elections.
