During a press conference on Sunday, former Chief Minister of Delhi and Aam Aadmi Party convenor, Arvind Kejriwal, launched a sharp attack on the BJP. He also clarified that the Aam Aadmi Party would not form any alliances with other parties in the Delhi elections.
Raising questions about the arrest of AAP MLA Naresh Balyan, he stated that our legislator had been receiving threats for a year and a half and he had even filed a complaint with the police about it, but he was the one who got arrested. Kejriwal mentioned, 'Naresh Balyan is troubled by gangster Kapil Sangwan, he has received several threats. Instead of acting against him, Delhi Police arrested Naresh Balyan. I was also attacked yesterday. Our fault is that we are questioning law and order.'
Raising questions about Naresh Balyan's arrest, Kejriwal said, 'They have arrested our legislator who was a victim of gangsters. Naresh Balyan has filed a written complaint with police that he is receiving threats, yet he was arrested. Balyan had filed a complaint against Kapil Sangwan regarding threats and extortion one and a half years ago. He registered a complaint with Delhi Police stating the Nandu gang was threatening to kill him. The gangster made public the location of Balyan's son, who resides abroad, and also disclosed the whereabouts of his family members.'
He wanted Balyan to collect money in his name, threatening death if he did not comply. Kapil Sangwan wanted Balyan to extract money from his targets, or face death. Balyan refused and lodged a complaint with the police. Instead, Delhi Police arrested Naresh Balyan, and I was attacked.
Directing criticism towards Home Minister Amit Shah, Kejriwal said, 'Amit Shah has sent a message to Delhi that if you file a complaint with the police, you'll be attacked, and you'll be arrested. The gangsters have a message from Amit Shah - I will protect you and act against those who complain. I challenge Amit Shah to arrest those gangsters, every child in Delhi knows about them. Attack me, and people's safety will be compromised by my MLA's arrest.'
Raising questions on the law and order situation in Delhi, Kejriwal remarked, 'I have been raising the issue of law and order in Delhi, and over the years, the situation has worsened. Due to the law and order situation, people are in fear. Daylight shootings indicate that thugs rule over Delhi. I could not stay silent and started questioning the situation. Businesses, due to extortion, are fearful. If they don’t comply, they risk being shot.'
Kejriwal further mentioned, 'I visited Panchsheel Enclave, a posh area in Delhi, where a 64-year-old was killed. The number of senior citizens living alone in Delhi is quite high. Instances of harassment are a daily occurrence. Women and senior citizens are in danger. I am going to Tilak Nagar to meet people. The matter of law and order and security comes directly under Home Minister Amit Shah. I thought by raising these issues, Amit Shah would take action and suppress these goons with a firm hand. Despite that, I was attacked. A liquid was thrown, which was harmless but could have been harmful.
