Ever since the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) was implemented, Delhi's Chief Minister and leader of the Aam Aadmi Party, Arvind Kejriwal, has been vocal against the central government's move. A protest by Hindu refugees from Pakistan and Bangladesh took place outside his home on Thursday, prompting a fiery response from the Delhi CM.
Kejriwal tweeted about the demonstration, questioning the audacity of these Pakistanis. They illegally infiltrated our nation, broke our laws, and should have been behind bars instead of causing uproar with their protests within our borders. The CAA will lead to the widespread presence of Pakistanis and Bangladeshis across the country and create disturbances for the populace. BJP is pushing the whole country into trouble out of selfish motives to make them their vote bank,' he wrote.
Today, these refugees are staging a sit-in outside Congress headquarters, as Congress also opposes the CAA.
Kejriwal had earlier raised concerns about the CAA, stating, 'The migration following the enforcement of this law will surpass that of 1947. How safe will it be with people from Pakistan entering India, leading to increased theft, rape, robbery, and riots? Would you appreciate it if individuals from Pakistan and Bangladesh started living in slums near your home?'
Kejriwal has lost his cool: Amit Shah
Home Minister Amit Shah, in response to Kejriwal's repeated questions about the CAA, told news agency ANI that the Delhi CM is agitated due to his corruption being exposed. 'Kejriwal may not be aware that all these people have already come to India and are living here without rights, which the government intends to grant them.'
Shah stated that the non-Muslim refugees who have come to India by 2014 are to be granted citizenship. He questioned why Kejriwal is not talking about Bangladeshi infiltrators or opposing Rohingya Muslims. 'The reason is his vote bank politics,' Shah asserted.
