Kareena Kapoor is set to grace the big screen with her upcoming film 'Crew'. Recently, its song 'Behind the Blouse' was released, which is a remake of the hit number 'What's Behind the Blouse' from the movie 'Villain'. The original track was sung by Ila Arun and Alka Yagnik while the new version also features their voices, along with additional vocals by Diljit Dosanjh and IP Singh. However, singer Ila Arun is not pleased with this development.

Ila Arun is Dissatisfied

In a recent interview, Ila Arun disclosed that permission was not sought to remake the track, nor was she informed about the new version. Moreover, she was only notified about the song's launch five minutes prior, which came as a shock to her. She ethically condemns the entire process despite maintaining a good relationship with the music label Tips. She expressed that she would not have been in a position to refuse permission if she had been informed in advance.

In discussion with India Today, Ila Arun said, 'I couldn't possibly refuse them under any circumstance. But ethically it's incorrect. It would have felt nice if they had discussed it with me.' Ila further mentioned, 'They called to seek my blessings just five minutes before they launched the song. What could I possibly do at that time other than to offer my blessings? I was stunned but couldn't question why they proceeded in this manner. My reaction is just like Alka Yagnik's towards this song.'

Create Your Own Songs

Ila Arun praised the original 'What's Behind the Blouse' for being iconic and commended its lyricist Anand Bakshi, composers Laxmikant-Pyarelal, and performers Madhuri Dixit and Neena Gupta. She highlighted that companies believe remaking old songs brings them to a new and younger audience. But, she questioned the need for such remakes and encouraged young directors to create their powerful, energetic songs that resonate with the young audience.

'Artists Should Benefit Too'

The singer articulated that she isn't looking to stir controversy but the entire experience left her quite shaken. She added that if an artist's song is recreated, they should be informed, involved in the process, and should share in the profits if the company benefits from it. Apart from 'Behind the Blouse', Ila Arun's track 'Ghaghra' has also been featured in the film 'Crew'.
