On Friday morning in the town of Chomu, Jaipur, the administration initiated bulldozer action against illegal encroachments. This operation is taking place in the same area where a violent crowd had hurled stones at a police team attempting to remove encroachments a few days earlier. The administration stated that metal railings and other structures, installed illegally on the road, were obstructing traffic, necessitating their removal. A large police force and administrative officials are present at the scene to manage any unpleasant situations.

The administration claims the operation is being conducted under the law and according to court instructions. Notably, an attempt to remove large stones and iron railings near the bus stand area by the Kalandi Mosque in Chomu, about 40 kilometers from Jaipur, occurred in the last week of December 2025. These were considered road encroachments and had caused persistent traffic issues for years. On the night of December 25, discussions were held between the mosque committee and the municipal corporation, leading to an agreement to remove the stones.

Stone Pelting Despite Agreement

However, on the morning of December 26, when police began using bulldozers to remove the railings, local residents protested. The situation quickly became tense, with a large crowd gathering at the scene. The mob threw stones at the police, injuring several officers. In response to the escalating tensions, police used tear gas and mild force to disperse the crowd. Due to the tense situation, internet services were suspended but later resumed.

Named FIR Against Two Dozen People

To maintain law and order, a heavy police presence was established in the area, and a flag march was conducted. In the stone-pelting incident by the violent mob, police detained over 110 people and filed named FIRs against two dozen individuals. On December 29, notices were posted on four illegal constructions and 20 unauthorized butcheries in the area, giving three days to remove steps, ramps, platforms, etc., from public land, or face bulldozer action.

Notice to 24 Stone-Pelting Accused Also Pinned

Notices were also pinned on the homes of 24 accused involved in the stone-pelting incident against the police, asking for a response within three days, which concluded on December 31. The concerned individuals neither responded to the notice nor removed the illegal encroachments, prompting the local administration to start bulldozer action against identified illegal structures. Local residents claim their structures are being demolished without adequate notice, resulting in financial losses. However, the administration maintains that multiple warnings about removing encroachments had been issued in the past, but illegal occupations persisted nonetheless.
