The capital city of Rajasthan, Jaipur, has reported a harrowing road accident. Near the Rajasthan Assembly building, a high-speed Mahindra Thar collided with two motorcycles and a scooter late Tuesday night. This tragic incident resulted in the immediate death of a 23-year-old young man, Paras Vyas, while his aunt, Nandini, was left gravely injured.
Death Caused by Speeding Thar
According to reports from the news agency, the accident occurred around 10 p.m. in the Jyoti Nagar police station area. The red Thar was racing uncontrollably on the road and suddenly rammed into the vehicles.
Paras Vyas was en route to his home in Natraj Nagar on Tonk Road with his aunt on a scooter when the Thar, approaching from behind, struck them forcefully. This caused both to fall to the road, sustaining severe injuries. Bystanders immediately alerted the police and transported the injured to the SMS Hospital. Unfortunately, due to critical injuries, Paras could not be saved.
Cricketer Arrested
After the accident, the SUV was abandoned at the scene by the fleeing driver. Police took custody of the vehicle and initiated an investigation, identifying the accused using CCTV footage and technical evidence. On Wednesday, the 18-year-old budding cricketer Bhavya Chaudhary was arrested.
The police stated that Bhavya is charged with reckless driving, causing death, and fleeing the scene, among other severe offenses. It emerged during questioning that he lost control of the vehicle due to excessive speeding, leading to the major accident.
The incident has sparked outrage in the area. Local residents have expressed concerns about how such an accident could occur on a high-security, VIP movement road like that near the Assembly, raising alarms about the rest of the city.
