Amidst technical glitches and staff shortages, causing continuous flight cancellations and delays at Indigo Airlines, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has delivered a significant update. They announced that more than ₹6.1 billion in refunds have been processed for passengers. Additionally, Union Minister Ram Mohan Naidu held a critical meeting with stakeholders, giving directives regarding refunds. Sources suggest another meeting with all airline operators will take place soon.
According to the Ministry, amidst flight disruptions causing distress to passengers, Indigo has refunded a total of ₹6.1 billion. Moreover, by Saturday across the nation, 3,000 pieces of baggage were also delivered.
Last week, due to a sudden and severe technical glitch in Indigo's booking and check-in systems, hundreds of flights across the country were either canceled or delayed by hours. Thousands of passengers were stranded at airports, with many losing their luggage. Following the incident, public outrage erupted on social media, and the Ministry demanded immediate action from Indigo.

Operations Resume at 137 Destinations
Amid the crisis, Indigo updated that as of December 7, operations resumed at 137 out of 138 destinations. Today, more than 1,650 flights have been operated, surpassing the 1,500 flights on Saturday.
Indigo stated that on-time performance (OTP) is expected to reach 75%, up from 30% on Saturday. The company assures that the entire network will be fully stable by December 10.
Earlier, Indigo CEO Pieter Elbers announced that the airline would operate approximately 1,650 flights on Sunday. In a video message to employees, Elbers expressed hopes of achieving a 75% on-time performance on Sunday.
Important MoCA Meeting
Following a crucial meeting, the office of Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu reported continuous monitoring of all airports' real-time statuses. Meetings with several stakeholders have been conducted to alleviate passenger inconvenience, with real-time monitoring of airport statuses maintained over the past four days.
Regular meetings were held with operators, airport directors, ground-handling agencies, and other stakeholders. Operators were instructed to provide all necessary facilities for stranded passengers, with special attention given to senior citizens and differently-abled travelers.
Regarding refunds, Indigo was instructed to inform passengers about cancellations promptly and complete all refunds for canceled or excessively delayed flights by 8:00 PM tonight. The aviation network is rapidly progressing towards full normalcy, and corrective measures will continue until complete operational stability is achieved.
650 Flights Cancelled
Information reveals that Indigo still faces a severe crisis. On December 7, 650 flights were canceled, following 850 on December 6 and 1,000 on December 5.
