Iran has unveiled its third underground missile base, highlighting its commitment to bolstering its military defense capabilities. This step is taken as U.S. President Donald Trump has set a two-month deadline to dismantle Iran's nuclear program. This new military facility, dubbed 'Missile City,' features state-of-the-art, weapon-equipped underground tunnels.
In an 85-second video aired by Iranian state media, high-ranking military officials, Major General Mohammad Hossein Bagheri and IRGC Aerospace Force chief Amir Ali Hajizadeh, are depicted inspecting the premises.
The base houses Iran's most advanced missiles, including Khaybar Shikan, Qadr-H, Sejjil, and Paveh land attack cruise missiles. There are reports that these were used in recent strikes on Israel.
Revealing Security Vulnerabilities
However, the video also exposes a critical vulnerability of the military base. The weapons are stored in long, open tunnels and expansive caves without blast-proof doors or separate security walls. This means that an explosion during an attack could devastate the entire base.
U.S.-Iran Tensions Escalate
In November 2020, Iran released footage of its first underground missile center, showcasing weapons being transported on an automated rail system through vast tunnels, ready for launch. Three years later, Tehran revealed another underground military center designed to secure fighter jets. Now, tensions between the U.S. and Iran are at an all-time high.
President Donald Trump has issued an ultimatum to Iran to fully terminate its nuclear program and halt missile development. If Iran refuses, the U.S. has warned of severe sanctions and potential military action.
Iran Rebuffs U.S. Demands
Iran has outright rejected these demands, asserting that its nuclear and missile programs are crucial for national security and maintaining regional strategic balance.
Meanwhile, the U.S. has deployed two aircraft carrier strike groups in the Middle East, indicating readiness to use military force if necessary. Iran has also cautioned that it is fully prepared to retaliate if provoked.
