At the age of 87, he breathed his last at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai after battling health issues for a long time. On Saturday, April 5, Manoj Kumar's final rites were conducted in the afternoon. Some of Manoj Kumar's family members reside abroad and flew to India for his send-off. Early that morning, his body was transferred from Kokilaben Hospital to his residence in Juhu, from where the family proceeded to the cremation ground.
A car adorned with a large picture of Manoj Kumar was prepared for his admirers to pay their last respects. The actor was bestowed with state honors. Prominent senior actors from Bollywood were present to say goodbye to their friend and colleague. Esteemed actors such as Prem Chopra, Amitabh Bachchan, Raj Babbar, Saira Banu, Ashok Pandit, Abhishek Bachchan, Raza Murad, and Rajpal Yadav, were among the many stars who attended.

Who Was Manoj Kumar?
Born on July 24, 1937, in Pakistan, Manoj Kumar's real name was Harikrishna Giri Goswami. He was born in Abbottabad (now in Pakistan) and moved with his family to Delhi during the India-Pakistan partition. He had a passion for cinema since childhood and adopted the screen name Manoj Kumar after his admiration for Dilip Kumar's character in the film 'Shabnam'. His acting career began with the film 'Fashion' in 1957.
The year 1965 marked a turning point in his career with the film 'Shaheed', skyrocketing him to fame. From there, he never looked back. His performances, regardless of the role, were always immersive. Manoj Kumar's movies were hits, and their songs became timeless. 'Mere Desh Ki Dharti' from the film 'Upkar' remains a cherished patriotic anthem. The film earned him a National Award. Known as Bharat Kumar, he was renowned for his roles in patriotic films like 'Upkar', 'Sahara', 'Chand', 'Honeymoon', 'Purab Aur Paschim', 'Naseeb', 'Meri Awaz Suno', 'Neel Kamal', 'Patthar Ke Sanam', and 'Piya Milan Ki Aas'. Besides the National Award, he was honored with the Padma Shri and the Dada Saheb Phalke Award.
Manoj Kumar retired from acting after his role in the 1995 film 'Maidan-E-Jung'. In 1999, he directed his son Kunal Goswami in 'Jai Hind', which did not perform well at the box office. After retiring from films, Manoj Kumar ventured into politics, joining the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2004.
