In the high-stakes cricket showdown of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Qualifier-2, the Punjab Kings (PBKS) face off against the Mumbai Indians (MI) today (June 1) at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. With the toss in Punjab Kings' favor, captain Shreyas Iyer chose to start with bowling.

However, the match faced a delay shortly after the toss due to an unforeseen downpour. This begs the question—if the Qualifier-2 is washed away by rain, what comes next? Which team will secure the finals berth? We've delved into the rulebook...

According to IPL's play conditions, if a minimum of five overs cannot be played in Qualifier-1, Eliminator, or Qualifier-2 due to rain, a Super Over will be used to determine the victor.

Should the Super Over be infeasible, the decision will pivot to the teams' standings on the points table. Thus, if rain cancels the encounter between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians, it is Punjab Kings who will advance to the finals by virtue of their top position in the rankings.

It's noteworthy that the IPL 2025 features a reserved day for the finals. The climactic face-off is also scheduled in Ahmedabad on the 3rd. If no result arises that day, the final could be extended to June 4. Play on the reserve day continues from where it was halted.

Even if rain disrupts the reserve day, and five overs can't be played, the IPL champion might be decided by a Super Over. In the event the Super Over can't materialize, the title will be awarded based on the points standings.
