Following the enactment of the Waqf Amendment Act, the investigation of Waqf properties in Chhattisgarh has significantly accelerated. A high-level 10-member team from the central government in Delhi has arrived directly in Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh, to conduct an in-depth inspection of Waqf properties. This team is assessing the status, use, and maintenance of these properties in accordance with recent amendments to the Waqf Act. This step is considered crucial for ensuring transparency and accountability in Waqf properties management.

The Chairman of the Chhattisgarh Waqf Board, Dr. Salim Raj, was present with the inspection team. On Thursday, the team inspected the historic Fateh Shah Market in the Tikrapara area of Raipur, which is one of the key Waqf properties of the state and has been embroiled in controversies for a long time. Dr. Salim Raj stated, "This inspection is a positive initiative that will enhance the proper utilization and preservation of Waqf properties."

He also mentioned that some currently inactive properties might be converted into shopping complexes, which would directly benefit the Muslim community. The inspection team has been in the state since April 7 and has already surveyed properties in Mahasamund, Balodabazar, and Raipur districts. Once the report is prepared, the team will head back to Delhi.

However, this entire process has elicited sharp reactions from the Muslim community and political circles. Fahim Sheikh, a core member of the Chhattisgarh Muslim Congress and General Secretary of IYC, critiqued the inspections as mere pretense. He claimed, "Salim Raj can never be good for Muslims, as he is a pawn of the BJP." Sheikh alleged the Waqf properties' survey had already been completed and that the new bill is merely an excuse. He added that it seems unbelievable for the BJP, known for its anti-Muslim politics, to suddenly show concern for Muslim properties.

Additionally, Gaddoo Qureshi, President of the Chhattisgarh Muslim Welfare Society, targeted Dr. Salim Raj, questioning his understanding of Islam or the significance of the five daily prayers. He queried how someone lacking such knowledge could advocate for Muslim interests. If concerned about Muslims, actions should be taken on issues like bulldozer demolitions, flags on mosques, and restrictions on prayers.

Nonetheless, the Waqf Board asserts the process is entirely transparent, conducted under the national policy. The team's report is expected to influence future Waqf property policies and administrative decisions significantly.
