In a significant move to make Indore beggar-free, the Women and Child Development Department rounded up 14 beggars. Among them was a woman begging near the Shani Temple at Rajwada, found with a surprising 75,000 rupees collected in just 10-12 days.
This initiative, launched under the instructions of Collector Ashish Singh, began in February. The campaign targets various parts of the city, including temples and religious sites, rounding up individuals begging for alms and sending them to the Sevadhan Ashram in Ujjain.
Project Officer Dinesh Mishra explained that his team discovered the woman near the Shani Temple with the money hidden in her sari. The amount was collected over a short span of 10-12 days, and she is a resident of Palda, Indore.
The Women and Child Development Department has sent all the beggars to Ujjain's Sevadhan Ashram, where they are being counseled. The aim is to help them leave begging behind and become part of the mainstream society.
Project officials mentioned that some families in the city persist in begging despite repeated apprehensions, and the campaign is maintaining a strict watch on these groups.
