Indigo receives another 24-hour reprieve... DGCA warns of action if no response

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has granted Mr. Indigo's accountable manager and CEO a one-time extension of 24 hours to respond to the show-cause notice issued on December 6, 2025. The DGCA stated that if Indigo does not provide a thorough and comprehensive response within the given deadline, the DGCA will proceed without further consideration of the case.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has granted Indigo a final extension of just 24 hours to respond to the show-cause notice issued due to flight cancellations and delays caused by technical malfunctions. The DGCA has issued clear instructions that if Indigo fails to respond within the allotted time, unilateral action will be taken without hearing their side.

Last week, a significant technical malfunction led to widespread flight cancellations and delays. In response, Indigo CEO Peter Elbers and Accountable Manager (COO) Isidre Porqueras Oriya requested an extension to answer the show-cause notice (SCN) issued on December 6. Indigo's executives argued in a letter to the DGCA on December 7 that due to the airline's extensive flight network and the unavoidable circumstances at various airports, more time is needed to prepare a comprehensive response.

'24-Hour Reprieve'

Following their request, the DGCA partially accepted by granting a one-time extension of just 24 hours. Now, Indigo must submit a complete and detailed response to the show-cause notice by 6 PM on Monday, December 8, 2025.

'Action Without Hearing'

Alongside this, the DGCA has issued a stern warning to Indigo, emphasizing that no further extensions will be granted. If Indigo fails to provide a satisfactory and complete response by the stipulated deadline, regulatory action will proceed ex parte without considering their side.

Notice Issued on December 6

On December 6, the DGCA issued the notice in light of ongoing flight cancellations, delays, stranded passengers, and incidents of lost baggage. Should Indigo's response prove unsatisfactory, the CEO and Accountable Manager could face heavy fines or other severe actions.
