Government Shuts Down 18 OTT Platforms

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in India has made a decisive move to block 18 OTT platforms. These platforms were actively promoting explicit content, which had previously prompted several government warnings. This sweeping block also extends to numerous social media accounts and websites, as reported by the news agency ANI.

According to ANI's report, the ministry has proceeded to block 18 OTT platforms that had been warned multiple times for showcasing explicit content. Moreover, the decision includes blocking 19 websites, 10 apps, and 57 social media accounts associated with these OTT platforms across the country.

The ministry took this action under the Information Technology Act, 2000. We're here to inform you about the blocked OTT platforms which include Dreams Films, Voovi, Yessma, Uncut Adda, Tri Flicks, X Prime, Neon X VIP, Besharams, Hunters, Rabbit, Xtramood, Nuefliks, MoodX, Mojflix, Hot Shots VIP, Fugi, Chikooflix, and Prime Play.

The government stated that the content on these platforms often depicted women in degrading scenarios. The platforms varied in their use of nudity and sexual content, sometimes undermining the sanctity of relationships between teachers and students.

Social media accounts are also in the government's crosshairs with this action. This includes 12 Facebook accounts, 17 Instagram accounts, 16 Twitter (previously known as X) accounts, and 12 YouTube accounts.
