American President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet in Alaska on August 15. This meeting is expected to discuss potential solutions to end the Ukraine war. India has welcomed this initiative, expressing readiness to assist in efforts to restore peace in Ukraine.

The Ministry of External Affairs stated, 'India welcomes the U.S.-Russia meeting in Alaska. This dialogue between Trump and Putin could open new avenues for ending the Ukraine conflict and restoring peace, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi has often highlighted – this is not an era of war. Hence, India supports this meeting and is ready to cooperate in these efforts.'

Trump-Putin Meeting: A Solution to the Ukraine War?

Donald Trump announced on the social media platform 'Truth Social' that his highly anticipated meeting with Putin will take place next Friday in the 'Great State of Alaska,' with more details to follow. Meanwhile, the Kremlin (Office of the Russian President) indicated that the leaders will focus on finding long-term and peaceful solutions to the Ukraine crisis. Although challenging, Moscow will actively participate in this process.

Putin's First U.S. Visit Since 2015

This will be Russian President Vladimir Putin's first visit to the U.S. since 2015 when he met then-President Barack Obama. This summit in Alaska will also mark the first U.S.-Russia summit meeting since 2021 when former President Joe Biden met with Vladimir Putin in Geneva. Speaking at the White House during the signing of the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace agreement, Trump hinted that a potential agreement between Ukraine and Russia might involve the exchange of some territories. He told reporters, 'We will take some back and give some back; there will be exchanges of territories in the interest of both countries.'

Ukraine Will Not Cede Any of Its Land

However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has firmly stated that Ukraine will not cede any part of its territory. He stated on Telegram, 'The answer to Ukraine's territorial question is already in Ukraine's Constitution. No one will deviate from this, and none can be swayed. Ukrainians will not surrender their land to any aggressor.' He also warned that any agreement reached without Ukraine's consent would be a 'dead resolution,' which will never be effective.
