Following a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India has taken stern measures against Pakistan, including halting the Indus Water Treaty. Pakistan has been rattled, and in response, continuous threats are being issued. In this context, Pakistan's Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi has made a statement, asserting that India cannot single-handedly nullify the historic Indus Water Treaty, as the World Bank serves as the guarantor. Naqvi has warned that if any action is taken, Pakistan is ready for war.
Previously, Bilawal Bhutto had also issued a similar warning regarding the Indus Water Treaty. Bhutto declared near the Indus River that the river belonged to Pakistan and will remain so. He emphatically stated, either our water will flow from this river, or the blood of those who try to snatch it. Bhutto asserted that just because India's population is larger, they cannot decide the ownership of water. The daring and proud people of Pakistan are ready to face any challenge, with their military ready to counter any attack on the borders.
The bold announcement by Bhutto echoed firm determination when he said that every Pakistani will carry the message that any attempt on the river will not be tolerated. The nation's unity is required to answer the enemy's eyes fixed on our water. It should be noted that India and Pakistan signed the Indus Water Treaty in 1960, with detailed arrangements for the distribution of Indus River waters. The World Bank oversees the mediation and monitoring of this treaty.
