Renewed Violence Erupts in Imphal: Bombings and Shootings Injure Four, CM Condemns as an Attack on Peace

Following a violent episode involving shootings and bombings that injured four people, including a video journalist, in the Imphal East district of Manipur, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has voiced strong condemnation. Adequate security forces have been sent to safeguard the affected areas.

In a heartfelt post on X, the CM stated, "I strongly condemn the indiscriminate shooting by Kuki militants in Sanasabi and Thamnapokpi, Imphal East, which left both civilians and security personnel wounded. Such a cowardly and unprovoked assault on innocent lives is a direct threat to peace and harmony."

He further announced, "We have dispatched adequate security personnel to the affected areas. Those injured are receiving necessary medical aid, and the government calls for peace and unity to face such challenges. There must be proper coordination and understanding between the central forces and the state police to tackle these situations effectively."

Since Friday, the areas of Thamnapokpi and Sanasabi have been under heavy gunfire. A woman was injured around midnight and a video journalist working for a local TV channel was shot on Saturday morning. The journalist has been identified as K. Kabichandra.

On Friday night, terrorists fired towards Thamnapokpi from the hills of Kangpokpi district, injuring an elderly woman. She was taken to the Yengangpokpi Primary Health Centre for treatment and is reported to be stable now.

Two more individuals, including a commando named K. Haridas (37), sustained injuries. Haridas has been admitted to the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) for treatment. According to police reports, the firing ceased around 9 AM, only to resume briefly at around 1:20 PM, before halting again. A joint team of Indian security forces and state police conducted a search operation in the hilly terrain where the terrorists initiated the firing.
