The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) has innovated an extraordinary fabric that makes soldiers disappear in its presence. This metamaterial can render our soldiers akin to Mr. India, and conceal essential weaponry.
An ingenious metamaterial surface cloaking system offers protection for soldiers, aircraft, and drones from adversaries. This fabric remains undetectable by enemy radars or satellites, and even infrared cameras, ground sensors, or thermal imagers are rendered ineffective.

This innovation can create covers for military vehicles, uniforms for soldiers, or aircraft covers. It's entirely indigenously produced and is 6-7 times cheaper than foreign-imported surface cloaking systems. IIT Kanpur's Director, Prof. Manindra Agrawal, unveiled this groundbreaking metamaterial.
Unseen with Any Technology
Displayed at the Defense Startup Exhibition at IIT Kanpur, the fabric received considerable acclaim. If applied around army vehicles or provided as uniforms to soldiers, they will remain unseen by any enemy cameras or imaging systems, effectively neutralizing many enemy technologies.

Three IIT Scientists' Ingenious Invention
Developed jointly by IIT scientists Prof. Kumar Vaibhav Srivastava, Prof. S. Anant Ramakrishnan, and Prof. J. Ramkumar, the patent for this metamaterial was applied for in 2018, which has been granted. Trials with the Indian Army have been conducted over six years.
Deceptive Against Imaging Systems
Since 2010, Prof. Kumar Vaibhav has been working on this project. As the Indian Army sought a radar-deceptive technology in 2019, this material came to fruition, capable of deceiving enemy radars, satellite systems, infrared cameras, ground sensors, and thermal imagers.
Upon Approval, Ready in a Year for Military Use
Mettatow Co.'s MD and former Air Vice-Marshal Praveen Bhatt claims that with approval, the Indian Army could receive the material within a year. It effectively halts any imaging process.
