Among the victims of the horrific road accident in Kannauj was Dr. Aniruddh Sharma (28) from Agra's Kamla Nagar. Early Wednesday, when the family received a call from the police about Aniruddh's accident, chaos ensued. His father rushed to Saifai, while his mother sat praying with a lamp for her son's safety. However, when her son's body arrived at their doorstep in the evening, she broke down.
Those trying to console the grieving mother were also moved to tears. Each eye was wet, struggling to believe that the dreams woven around Aniruddh's wedding were now shattered. The father's hands shook as he picked up the bier instead of tying a turban on his young son's head. The younger brother, in tears, lit the funeral pyre.
Dr. Aniruddh Sharma was pursuing his post-graduation at Saifai Medical College. His father, Pawan Kumar, is also a doctor, and his younger brother is studying medicine in Lucknow. He had just purchased a Scorpio a few months ago. Tragically, that very car crashed on Wednesday morning, resulting in five deaths.
The deceased included three PG doctors and two technical staff members. The lone survivor is in critical condition and undergoing treatment. They were all traveling back from a marriage in Lucknow to Saifai.
On their return around 4 am, near Kannauj on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway, the car collided with a divider and veered into another lane. A truck coming from the opposite direction struck the Scorpio. The impact was so severe that the car was wrecked, claiming the lives of Dr. Aniruddh Sharma and four others on the spot, leaving one critically injured.
According to locals, Dr. Aniruddh rendered his services tirelessly in the hospital during the COVID pandemic, saving numerous lives. His contributions earned deep respect in the community. After news of his death spread, a crowd gathered at his home to pay their respects.
