IIT Guwahati Student Detained for Alleged ISIS Links

An IIT Guwahati student has been detained by Assam police on suspicion of joining the terrorist organization ISIS.

An IIT Guwahati student showing an inclination towards the terrorist organization ISIS was reportedly on his way to join the group. He was detained on Saturday evening in Hajo, Assam. The student was captured four days after Haris Farooqui, alleged head of ISIS in India, and his associate Anurag Singh were arrested in the Dhubri district.

Director General of Police GP Singh mentioned in a social media post that an IIT Guwahati student sympathetic to ISIS has been detained during transit and legal proceedings will follow.

Email Revealed the Plan

Upon receiving an email, we began an investigation, revealed Additional Superintendent of Police Kalyan Kumar Pathak. Sent by the student himself, it claimed he was joining ISIS. After the email was received, IIT Guwahati officials were contacted, who informed us that the student had been missing since the afternoon, and his mobile phone was switched off. He is a fourth-year student and resides in Okhla, Delhi.

ASP shared that a search was initiated, and with the help of locals, the student was apprehended approximately 30 kilometers away from Guwahati, in the area of Hajo.
