Chinese scientists are creating a pill that could potentially extend human life to 150 years, based on a natural compound extracted from grape seeds. However, some scientists suggest it's merely a claim, stressing the necessity for extensive human trials.
Biotech startup Shenzhen's Longevity BioSciences is behind this initiative. The main ingredient in the anti-aging pill is Procyanidin C1 (PCC1), found in grape seed extract. The company asserts that this pill will eliminate aging or weak cells while protecting healthy ones, significantly increasing lifespan.
This discovery is based on a 2021 study published in the Nature Metabolism Journal, where trials on mice demonstrated that PCC1 selectively destroyed aged cells while preserving healthy ones.

The outcome was an average 9% increase in the lifespan of mice taking the drug. Considering the duration post-treatment, this was a 64.2% increase.
The CEO, Yip Tsidzo (Jico), referred to this pill as the 'Holy Grail of Longevity Science', envisioning that combining this with a healthy lifestyle could soon make living to 150 a reality. The company is now formulating this technique as a pill for human use.
Other scientists remain cautious. The Buck Institute for Research on Aging experts believe that while the results in mice are promising, applying this to humans is challenging. They stress the complexity of the process and recognize the need for extensive clinical trials to prove efficacy and safety. Extraordinary claims about extending human lifespan significantly demand robust research evidence.

Research on longevity is a national priority in China, with significant investments from government and private firms. Scientists acknowledge science is advancing rapidly, yet the prospect of reaching 150 years remains a distant dream. Global interest in anti-aging research is growing, but genuine breakthroughs will take time.
This discovery is stirring excitement. People are wondering if surpassing a century could become commonplace, much like grandmothers aged over 100 in the past. Meanwhile, doctors advocate maintaining a healthy diet, exercise, and good habits as the best current approach to longevity. All eyes are on Longevity BioSciences’ next steps.
