During a lively roadshow of BJP candidate Arun Govil in Meerut, over a dozen attendees found themselves relieved of their wallets, mobile phones, and money. Following the incident, victims flocked to the police station to lodge their complaints, resulting in the arrest of three culprits. Sources indicate that the alleged gang of thieves had come from Delhi. The matter is currently under active investigation and has sparked considerable discussion on social media.

In fact, the roadshow held on April 22 in Meerut, in light of the Lok Sabha elections, featured Arun Govil, who famously portrayed Lord Rama in the television series 'Ramayana.' Also present were Sunil Lahri and Deepika Chikhalia, who played Lakshman and Sita. Amid the tremendous turnout, cunning pickpockets took the opportunity to commit their crimes, targeting dozens of unsuspecting individuals.

The thieves struck hard at the roadshow in Meerut city, engaging in a spree that left several BJP workers and media personnel without their mobile devices and wallets. Some women also fell victim to the thefts. Consequently, the aggrieved started appearing one by one at the Nauchandi police station to register their complaints.

According to reports, BJP's Western region coordinator Alok Sisodia was among those who had their mobile phones stolen. A number of businessmen also fell prey to the thieves. One of the victims shared: "I was at my shop when Arun Govil's procession was passing by. There was a huge crowd. I joined in the cheers for Lord Rama, but when I returned, I found my money gone. Not a single rupee was left. I lost 36,000 rupees."

On the case, CO Civil Line Abhishek Tiwari reported that three individuals have been detained. These suspects hail from Delhi and some mobile phones have been recovered from them. The investigation is ongoing, and official charges have been filed against the arrested individuals.

It is important to note that Meerut is scheduled for the second phase of voting on April 26. Against BJP candidate Arun Govil, the Samajwadi Party has fielded Sunita Verma, and the BSP has introduced Devvrata Kumar Tyagi into the electoral fray. Amidst the election buzz, the thievery at the roadshow has become a headline-grabbing incident.
