MP Engineer Rashid Permitted to Attend Parliament While Detained

The Delhi High Court has granted permission to Jammu and Kashmir's MP, Engineer Rashid, who was arrested in a terror funding case, to attend the second phase of the 18th Lok Sabha's fourth session (March 26 - April 4, 2025) while under detention. This decision ensures that the democratic mandate of the people of North Kashmir is upheld, enabling their elected representative to participate in crucial parliamentary proceedings.

Welcoming the court's resolution, Awami Ittihad Party (AIP) chief spokesperson, Inam-un-Nabi, expressed profound gratitude towards the honorable judiciary for maintaining democratic principles, allowing Engineer Rashid to represent his people in parliament against all odds. This is a landmark decision for democracy and justice. He extended thanks to their legal team, senior advocate N. Hariharan, and advocate Vikhyat Oberoi, for their pivotal role in obtaining this order.

Rashid to Arrive in Parliament Under Police Security. According to the court's directive, Engineer Rashid will be escorted by police from the jail to parliament and will be re-detained after the session concludes. While at parliament, he will perform his duties as an MP but will have restricted access to media interactions and communications.

AIP spokesperson Inam-un-Nabi stated that this decision is seen as a triumph for democratic representation, ensuring that the voices of North Kashmir are not silenced in the nation's highest legislative body.
