Unprecedented heat waves are hitting various regions of the country. This intense heat is palpable even before March arrives. Across Gujarat, the populace is bearing the brunt of sweltering temperatures, while Delhi records above-average highs. Forecasters predict that parts of northwestern India could see maximum temperatures climbing 3 to 5°C above normal this week.
The coast of Southern Gujarat remains a hotbed, with Surat recording maximum temperatures beyond 37°C over recent days. According to the weather forecasting agency, Skymet Weather, the warmth is also observed inland in Saurashtra.
Rajkot recently recorded a high of 36.8°C. Likewise, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surendranagar, and Amreli are registering temperatures above 35°C, exceeding normal by 3 to 4°C.

Heatwave Starts in February
By February's close, the chill seemed to vanish, with Delhi experiencing temperatures exceeding 30°C thrice this month. The Regional Meteorological Centre in New Delhi reports a high of 31.6°C for February, the warmest recorded.

Delhi's minimum temperature is also on the rise, making mornings and nights unusually warm. The weather department anticipates highs reaching 32°C in the coming days. Reflecting on past years, in 2025, Delhi had a maximum of 32.4°C by February 26. In 2024, February's peak was 29.7°C. The benchmark for heat after 2020 was set on February 21, 2023, with 33.6°C. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), many parts of central and eastern India could see maximum temperatures 2 to 3°C higher than the norm.
