The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, took to social media platform 'X' on Monday to address the Congress. CM Himanta said, 'I am astonished. Congress members in Assam are questioning the expenses on the Chief Minister's security. Congress seems unaware that whether it's Rahul Gandhi or Kharge Ji, their security expenses are not borne by the Gandhi family, but by the government. Politics should not be done over security.'
What Himanta Biswa Sarma Said
In his video message, Himanta said that Congress tried to create controversy over the expenditure on the Assam Chief Minister’s security. They accused him of using the people’s money for political travels. He stated, 'I want to ask the Congress members, who bears my expenses when I travel to Jharkhand, Bihar or UP? The expenses are borne by the Bharatiya Janata Party. Deciding how and why security is provided to the Chief Minister is the government's job. This security is not for me but for the Chief Minister of Assam. I will not be in this position forever and I didn’t always have this much security.'
Questions to Congress
Himanta asked the Congress regarding the expenses of Rahul Gandhi’s security during the Bharat Jodo Yatra. He was not the Chief Minister of Assam, yet the Assam government took responsibility. He questioned how Rahul Gandhi could accept security if the Assam people cannot afford the Chief Minister's security. However, we know it’s the state government’s responsibility. We do not need to politicize security.
Himanta mentioned that the next time Rahul Gandhi visits Assam, they will send the security expenditure details to Rajiv Bhavan. 'Such low-level politics should not be carried out. I appeal to Congress, the Assam assembly elections are in 2026. We have a lot of work to do. But politics over security should stop,' he said.
