The obsession to go viral overnight on Social Media through creating reels can be life-threatening, as evidenced by several unnerving incidents. One such alarming video gaining rapid traction on the internet shows a girl hanging off a skyscraper by holding a companion's hand. Witnessing the height of the building and the girl's audacity will send chills down your spine. Following the video going viral, Pune police intervened with decisive actions.
An empty building in the Narhe area, far from the Mumbai-Bengaluru highway, became the scene of this hazardous clip. The narrative revolves around a group who ventured there to produce a reel.
Atop the roof, a young man lay flat while holding hands with a girl who hung from the edge, all while another filmed the risky endeavor. Below, others too captured the moment, thereby putting her life on the line for a mere video.
As the clip circulated, Pune city police registered a case and initiated an inquiry. They added Section 308 of the IPC, dealing with 'culpable homicide not amounting to murder,' following the unwarranted stunt performed solely for social media glory.
The video that went viral last Thursday has prompted police to act initially under IPC Section 336, for endangering personal safety and life of others. Officers from the Bharti Vidyapeeth police station added after filing the case, that the culprits, both athletes, were summoned, reprimanded, and served a notice. Offenders under Section 308 can face up to three years of imprisonment.
The police also advised the public against attempting such life-threatening stunts for fleeting fame, as such actions can have dire consequences on life itself.
