During the burial rites of mafia-don Mukhtar Ansari in his ancestral village in Ghazipur, his elder brother and parliamentarian Afzal Ansari engaged in a sharp confrontation with the administration and officers.
A visibly angered Afzal Ansari was at the center of the dispute. Ghazipur's DM Aryaka Akhouri had asked that only family members be allowed inside the graveyard during the burial process.
In response, Afzal argued that if others wished to participate in Mukhtar Ansari's burial, no one could stop them. This elicited a response from the DM stating, 'I am the DM, and no permission was granted for this.'
Afzal Ansari rebuked the claim, contending that religious rites or laying someone to rest doesn't require permissions. The DM countered that it does require permission as Section 144 was in force and instructed to enter with family members only.
Affirming his point, Afzal Ansari insisted that anyone who wanted to pay their respects should be allowed to do so, and no one could prevent that.
DM Aryaka Akhouri warned that the situation was being monitored, and appropriate action would be taken against any disruptions.
Ghazipur's SSP Omveer Singh stated regarding the incident, 'Mukhtar’s relatives were laying the earth when people from the alleys came in; their identification is ongoing.' Following Mukhtar Ansari's death on Thursday night, his body was brought to Ghazipur on Friday where he was laid to rest in the Kalibagh cemetery.
However, only family members were granted permission to lay earth on his grave. During this time, from the graveyard to all of Ghazipur, stringent security measures were in place. Notably absent was his wife Afshan, who is currently evading arrest with several cases pending against her.
