Farmers stationed at the Shambhu border have once again announced a march to Delhi. Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher revealed in a press conference on Tuesday that the march to Delhi is set for December 14. Our protest has reached 303 days, and the farmers' hunger strike has entered its 15th day. We have always been open to dialogue, but no contact has been made from the government's side.
He stated that both organizations have decided to send a group of 101 farmers on December 14. Tomorrow (Wednesday), we will pray for the success of the farmers' movement. We demand the release of those farmers who were arrested or detained during the protests. I also urge our film stars, singers, and religious leaders to please promote our protest in solidarity.
Attempts Made on December 6 and 8
Earlier, under the banner of United Kisan Morcha (Non-political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, batches of 101 farmers made two attempts to march to Delhi on December 6 and 8, but were stopped by Haryana's security forces. During these attempts, a clash-like situation emerged between farmers and security personnel, leading to the use of tear gas shells to push the farmers back. Many farmers sustained injuries in the process.
Farmers Set at Shambhu and Khanauri Borders Since February 13
Post the blockade of their march to Delhi by security forces, farmers have encamped at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points between Punjab and Haryana since February 13. Previously, farmers attempted to march to Delhi on February 13 and 21, but were halted by the security forces stationed at the border points.
In addition to demanding legal guarantees for MSP (Minimum Support Price) for crops, farmers are calling for debt forgiveness, pensions for farmers and farm laborers, no increase in electricity rates, withdrawal of police cases, and "justice" for the victims of the 2021 Lakhimpur Kheri violence. Restoring the 2013 Land Acquisition Act and compensating the families of farmers who died during the previous 2020-21 protest are also among their demands.
