The troubles for JDS Member of Parliament Prajwal Revanna show no signs of abating. A party leader has now written to H.D. Deve Gowda, urging for Prajwal's expulsion, as the scandal has become a major embarrassment for the party.
JDS legislator Sharanagouda Kandakur sent a letter to Deve Gowda on Monday, appealing to him to remove Prajwal Revanna from the party, citing the ignominy the JDS has faced because of the widespread circulation of sex scandal videos allegedly featuring Revanna, indicating possible culpability. 'Therefore, it seems imperative that he is swiftly removed from the party,' the letter read.
BJP Leader Also Penned a Correspondence
Not only from the JDS but also a BJP leader, Devaraje Gowda, addressed the State President B.Y. Vijayendra last December. The BJP member made serious accusations in his letter against several leaders from H.D. Deve Gowda's family, including Prajwal Revanna. He claimed to have received a pen drive containing 2,976 videos of women, including government officials, in compromising positions, used for blackmail.
He further alleged another pen drive with such videos had reached the national leaders of the Congress party. He warned that if their party formed an alliance with the JDS and nominated a JDS candidate for the Lok Sabha elections in Hassan, these videos could be used as 'a Brahmastra,' tarnishing their party's national image significantly.
Devaraje Gowda penned this ominous letter on December 8, 2023, to B.Y. Vijayendra. Devaraje had been the BJP candidate from Holenarasipura in the state elections held the previous year.
Special Investigation Team Appointed for Inquiry
In related news, incriminating videos allegedly of Prajwal Revanna surfaced just days before the voting for the Hasan Lok Sabha seat. Following this, the Chairperson of the Karnataka Commission for Women wrote to the government demanding the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to look into the matter. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah directed the establishment of the SIT on Saturday, April 27th. The SIT will be led by an ADGP-level officer and include three SP-rank officers, one of whom is a woman.
It is noteworthy that Prajwal Revanna is the grandson of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda and the son of H.D. Revanna, a former minister in the Karnataka government. He is currently the MP from the Hassan seat and is the candidate from the same constituency for this election.
