On December 19, 2025, Lieutenant General RC Tiwari, Chief of the Indian Army's Eastern Command, conducted a crucial visit to the Belonia Border Outpost in Tripura's southern district. During this visit, he conducted a comprehensive review of the security arrangements, surveillance systems, and military preparedness along the India-Bangladesh border. Accompanying him were several senior officials, including Lieutenant General Abhijit S. Pendharkar of the Spear Corps.
This visit holds great significance amid the political turbulence and violence unfolding in Bangladesh. Reports of attacks on minorities and chaos following the departure of Sheikh Hasina's government have heightened alertness along the Indian border. The Eastern Command also inspected the bases of Assam Rifles and BSF in Mizoram's Parva, where they praised the operational preparedness and morale of the soldiers.

Tripura shares an extensive 856-kilometer border with Bangladesh, surrounded on three sides. A significant portion of this boundary remains unfenced, creating risks of infiltration, smuggling, and cross-border criminal activities.
