In Burla, Odisha, doctors at Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) have removed 70 needles from the head of a girl victimized by black magic. A day later, a team of neurosurgeons conducted a follow-up surgery and removed seven more needles.
The Institute's director, Bhabhagrahi Rath, disclosed that so far, 77 needles have been removed from the girl's head in two surgeries. Fortunately, the needles did not injure the skull bone, though there were wounds in her head. He mentioned that the patient is currently undergoing treatment.
He further mentioned that examinations for other problems will be conducted, as she had visited the sorcerer for treatment. He said it would be premature to conclude if she had any psychological issues. For now, she is receiving necessary medical care.
Due to the risk of pain and infection spreading, the girl was referred to VIMSAR from Bolangir. She is now out of danger but will need to stay in the hospital for about a week post-surgery.

On Thursday, the 19-year-old girl from Ichgaon in Sindhikela police limits, Bolangir, was experiencing severe headaches and was admitted to Bhima Bhoi Medical College. A CT scan there revealed multiple needles lodged in her head.
Initially, doctors removed eight needles, but her condition did not improve, so she was referred to VIMSAR. There, 70 more needles were removed.
Girl often fell ill after mother's death
The hospitalized girl's mother had passed away four years ago, after which the girl frequently fell ill. She visited a sorcerer in 2021 due to her illness. The family recently learned about the needles in her head when the girl complained of headaches.
Following the revelation, the police investigated and arrested the accused. The Kantabanji police are probing the entire episode to determine if the sorcerer had similarly harmed others in the name of treatment.
